Baron is an eight year old rottweiler mix who was found by the Michigan Humane Society abandoned in Detroit in January. He was malnourished, his back legs and tail had been lacerated, and his nose and both ears had been severed off.
Baron’s injuries were so extensive that he would need surgery to reconstruct his muzzle and tail. Led by Dr. Bryden Stanley, a soft tissue surgery specialist at Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, surgeons completed the successful surgeries in February, allowing Baron to start recovering and living a more comfortable life — and be able to get adopted by his forever family.
What’s even more amazing is that Dr. Stanley and her team did the surgery for free!

MHS staffers knew they had to act fast to save Baron’s life. They reached out to Dr. Bryden Stanley, head of surgery at Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, to reconstruct Baron’s tail and nose.
Stanley, Dr. Maria Posiedlik and Dr. Robert Fisher, MHS’ chief medical officer, performed the three hour surgery. According to Stanley, a surgery like Baron’s can cost anywhere between $3,000 and $3,500. Stanley’s team decided to do the surgery free of charge.

God bless all of you surgeons that performed Barons surgery its a light in a very dark world to know that people still do selfless things just out of humanity love and concern. Its completely disturbing to me that anyone would do something so sick to a vulnerable loyal innocent being, but I hope they are truly suffering whoever they are, and that they never know a minutes peace or joy ever again.
This poor boy will recover dogs are so resilient, thanks to you and your team. You rock!!!! Thank you all so much.

Thank you to Dr. Stanley and all of the wonderful people who have saved this dog. It is extremely disheartening to see what some people are capable of doing to our beloved pets. It seems that I have been reading horrific reports of abuse daily. It is so refreshing to read about compassionate people that help these animals. I pray that Baron will be adopted in to a loving home to receive all of the love that has been lacking in his life. You people are the best.

Top work from Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and all those involved in rescuing this poor animal. It’s important those responsible for inflicting this maltreatment are brought to account too. It cannot be in the interests of future generations to allow the peer culture responsible for this to perpetuate itself. Best wishes to the medical staff involved and of course to Baron. I hope he’s able to have as enjoyable a life as possible in spite of his appalling injuries. What is the point in fighting tyranny and wars abroad and then encountering this savagery on our doorsteps?

Reading ALL the love flowing from these words of soo many who really care! I know when I first read this story, like everyone, it just broke my heart and HOW badly I hope who ever did this will be caught AND I’d love to have their nose and ears cut off, just for a start!!!! To take this sweet, innocent, unconditional love of a dog and help him without worrying about the money, just says so loud & clear that you are a team of Vet’s who REALLY CARE!!!! It means so much to all of us who can’t be of help but are following this story and sending all the healing love, hugs, care, and ALOHA from beautiful Hawaii, where I have 8 rescue dogs and love dogs more than anything. I am soooo grateful Baron went to a fabulous home with a couple who has already turned his life around. Lille my wonderful husband said, “Baron had to go thru all this to find the perfect forever home”, and he did. Thanks to the couple who adopted him, AND to the vet’s who did all this out of LOVE & Caring. Thank you SOOOOO much!! WE are taught in life,” what goes around…comes around” and we know you all will be blessed beyond, and also know you did NOT do this for that reason. Just a HUGE THANK YOU, MAHALO, MERCI, GRACIA, for all your love, support, & caring!!! There will be a ”special” place in heaven for all of you!!
