Baron undergoing surgery.

Baron is an eight year old rottweiler mix who was found by the Michigan Humane Society abandoned in Detroit in January. He was malnourished, his back legs and tail had been lacerated, and his nose and both ears had been severed off.

Baron’s injuries were so extensive that he would need surgery to reconstruct his muzzle and tail. Led by Dr. Bryden Stanley, a soft tissue surgery specialist at Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, surgeons completed the successful surgeries in February, allowing Baron to start recovering and living a more comfortable life — and be able to get adopted by his forever family.

What’s even more amazing is that Dr. Stanley and her team did the surgery for free!

MHS staffers knew they had to act fast to save Baron’s life. They reached out to Dr. Bryden Stanley, head of surgery at Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, to reconstruct Baron’s tail and nose.

Stanley, Dr. Maria Posiedlik and Dr. Robert Fisher, MHS’ chief medical officer, performed the three hour surgery. According to Stanley, a surgery like Baron’s can cost anywhere between $3,000 and $3,500. Stanley’s team decided to do the surgery free of charge.

It’s just incredible to see how these surgeons came together to make sure that Baron received that best care possible and that they did it for free. Thank you!

Thank you for being so generous with your time, and expertise and for the family who gave Barron a permanent home filled with love, kindness and your time.
when I saw and heard Baron’s Story I could not understand how anybody could do this to any animal. They give you so much back in return. No animal deserves this type of cruelty.
We need to educate the public and change the laws at legislature level.

This dear dog was brutalized and traumatized beyond belief. I sincerely hope that those responsible are caught and held accountable for their viciousness to a helpless canine. I am sincerely grateful that so much good has come to Baron, starting with the life-giving surgeries his team of doctors performed for free. THANK YOU is totally inadequate to express my gratitude. I am also glad such a loving forever home for this special boy was found. May they enrich each others’ lives forever.
